Aviation Law Aviation Law includes many areas of legal practice, some of which overlap more traditional areas such as contracts and liability law, and some that are purely aviation-related. Whenever there is an aviation component to a transaction, we are prepared to handle it. We understand that aviation involves different requirements, a different vocabulary, and issues that are best understood by attorneys who are also aviators. Our firm represents individuals and companies engaged in aviation-related activities, appearing on their behalf before the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and in state and federal courts. A large part of our aviation practice is representing FAA certificate holders including pilots, mechanics, flight instructors, fixed base operators, businesses with flight departments, and airport owners. We represent airmen in medical certification matters, working with their physicians to demonstrate their fitness to fly. We assist persons in the buying, selling and leasing of aircraft, structuring our documents to afford maximum protection for their interests. We assist individuals and businesses in establishing co-ownership arrangements and counsel them with regard to Federal Aviation Regulation Part 135 issues to help them avoid inadvertent violations that could lead to serious penalties. We work with airport owners in dealing with federal, state and local authorities, helping them protect their airspace access and confronting land use and noise issues. Together with our firm’s Business Planning Section and our Litigation Section, we help aircraft owners and business owners structure their aviation activities for maximum asset protection. The attorneys of our Aviation Section are licensed pilots and aircraft owners themselves, pilots who operate in the real world of aviation and who maintain high standards of airmanship. They present seminars on aviation law concerns including a recent presentation for the AOPA Air Safety Foundation. They are members of the AOPA Legal Services Panel, participating in the required continuing training that Panel membership provides. Smigel, Anderson & Sacks, LLP stands apart from other law firms in its ability to provide aviation law counseling to the aviation community.
